“The Northeast of Portugal, Trás-os-Montes, is a province for the most daring traveler, because sometimes you can not count on modern comforts. The word “Trás” (behind) describes the region.
Because it is isolated from the rest of the country by mountainous chains and poor communication channels and suffers a pressing poverty that has forced the workers of almost all the towns to emigrate to the big cities or to developed countries of the north of Europe or of Overseas
It is possible that this old historical region is the most backward of civilized Europe along with the most remote parts and islands of Greece and the interior of Sardinia, Sicily or Yugoslavia…”
The long and cold winter slows down life in the villages of Trás-os-Montes, it seems that time does not advance until the Carnival arrives in February, a singular carnival in which the “Caretos” go out to the street to pester with their devilishness neighbors and visitors.
Originally from Alto Trás-os-Montes, it is the family of Jerónimo, ideologist and motor of this project, which with the NORDEST Cycles brand and its emblem offers a small homage to the cold lands of the Northeast.
